Indoor Dressage

Event report

The first dressage event of 2009 was met with cold temperatures but lovely sunshine. The event was kindly organised by Vicky Palmer and run at Brook Farm, Radwinter (now under new ownership).

SWDRC junior members faired extremely well, with the first class, Prelim 1 (judged by Jean Lywood) being won by Beccy Humphry on Amber with a great 67.3% score, and third place going to another junior member, Rhiannon Beal on Casio Glen. Splitting the dominant juniors in 2nd place was Emma O’Calaghan (senior member) on Cookie.

The second class, Prelim 13 was split into two sections due to the enormous number of entries. Section A (again judged by Jean Lywood) saw SWDRC junior members in 1st, 3rd and 4th placings. The winner Rhiannon Beal, just pipped Emma Clarke on Harvey into second place.

Section B judged by Mal Phillips saw a win once again for a junior member, this time Hannah Deuce on Dancing Kizzy who was placed equal first with Laura Martin on AKA B. 3rd, 4th and 5th placings all went to junior members, Tessa Olley on Bertie Bassett, Issy Picton-Turbeville on Kalifi Bay and Laura Byford on Funtime Frankie. Claire Engelmann managed a 6th placing on her new horse Angus.

The final class of the day – Novice 28, judged by Mal Philips was won by Charlotte Glover with Caruso, just one point ahead of Becky Westerhuis on Merlyn. Again this class was dominated by junior members with 3rd and 4th placings being taken by Tessa Olley on Bertie Bassett and Laura Byford on Funtime Frankie. Equal 5th, Alice Olley on The Bees Knees and Sarah Walden on Castie Celtic.

Many thanks to Vicky Palmer for running such a great event, which boasted 100% SWDRC members as competitors.
