SWDRC’s Teams put in some stellar performances at the Area Show Jumping Qualifiers at Tendring Hundred.
The Juniors kicked off with a team win (Q) in the Style Jumping. Individually Alice Caton was 2nd, Martha Sparrow and Ella Caton were 3rd and Millie Caton was 5th. The Novice team finished on 4 faults and came 3rd with Martha coming 2nd (Q) individually and Alice 3rd. The Intermediate team also finished with 4 faults to take 2nd place, with Alice Oakley winning (Q) individually and Ella coming 3rd.
The Seniors were a force to be reckoned with taking 1st (Q) and 2nd in the team Style Jumping, 1st (Q) & 5th in the team Novice, 1st (Q) & 2nd in the team Intermediate and 2nd in the team Open. Sophie Haylock won (Q) both sections of the individual style with her two horses, Claire Engelmann came 2nd (Q), Vicky Rutherford and Suzannah Engelmann were 3rd and Emma Neville was 5th. Having already all jumped treble clears and won the team event all our eligible riders chose not to take part in the individual jump off for the Novice but Lisa Spence and Emily Duff from the 2nd place team jumped off in the Intermediate to take 2nd & 4th places individually. In the Open individual jump off Jo Wilkins posted the best time to finish 2nd (Q) overall with Lisa Spence taking 3rd.
All teams and individuals marked (Q) have provisionally qualified for the BRC National Championships at Lincoln in September (subject to confirmation from BRC).
We were lucky to be blessed with good weather and a fabulous turnout of competitors for our first Show Jumping event of the year. The going at Sparrows Hill was terrific and we had riders from as young as a couple of 3 years old in the 30cm Crosspole class through to more seasoned campaigners jumping the 110cm Open. The Novice Derby saw it’s fair share of thrills and spills with the spectators cheering competitors on over the water and the devil’s dyke.Victory in the last class of the day went to the youngest rider in it who was thrilled to receive a rug as her prize.
On the day entries were greather than anticipated and it was a very long day so we thank everyone who came for their patience. Many thanks also to all those who help make the event happen.
